About GentlePlaces
A dental appointment, a haircut, a birthday party: for a lot of families these everyday things take more planning than a holiday. The information that decides them — is there a quiet waiting room, a first appointment of the day, a social story you can read the night before — is scattered across venue websites, PDFs, and parent-group posts, and the big map apps have no way to filter for any of it.
GentlePlaces puts that information in one place, category by category and city by city: dentists, barbers and salons, attractions, film screenings, restaurants and party venues, and the national programs ( supermarket quiet hours, sensory film screenings) that run every week. Every attribute on a listing is a specific provision — lights dimmed, music off, a cap on numbers, sensory bags at a named desk — with the source it came from and the date we last checked it.
We describe provisions, not vibes. A listing here is never a promise that a visit will go well, and our tiers are not a certification: they say where the information came from, nothing more. Families judge fit for themselves, with better facts than a search results page gives them.
Who runs it
GentlePlaces is an independent directory run by a small publisher in New Jersey. It is not a certification body, is not affiliated with KultureCity, IBCCES, or any venue listed, and does not speak for the autistic community — it organises information venues publish about themselves, and labels where every fact came from.
The short version of our rules
Our tiers (A: Confirmed on official source · B: Business-attested · C: Community-reported) describe where information came from — they are NOT a certification, ours or anyone else’s. We report specific provisions and let you judge.

Disclaimer
Sensory provisions, quiet hours, and programs change without notice. Information here is sourced and dated, but always confirm with the venue before visiting — especially before travelling for a scheduled sensory program.
